Jonas Blue bolts onto Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Jan. 30) at No. 34 with his first hit, “Fast Car.” Featuring vocals from Dakota, the track is a trop-house remake of Tracy Chapman’s modern folk classic, which hit No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 more than 27 years ago (Aug. 27, 1988).
Blue, a London-based producer, has already scored with the song internationally, reaching No. 2 on Australia Digital Songs, No. 3 on New Zealand Digital Songs, No. 7 on Luxembourg Digital Songs and No. 9 on Sweden Digital Songs. As his official Facebook page explains, Blue “had the idea to recreate one of his mother’s favourite songs that he remembered hearing on repeat as a child.”
